What Base76 Actually Does (and Why)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The AI debate in Sweden often swings between two extremes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Hype about productivity<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Fear without technical grounding<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Base76 operates in the space between those two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    We are building an independent research lab with one clear focus: reliable AI<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    That means we do not only look at model outputs. We look at what happens inside<\/strong> models when they reason, guess, or start to lose stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Problem<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Today\u2019s language models can sound confident even when their internal state is fragile.
    That is a practical risk for anyone using AI in real decisions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      What We Do Technically<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      At Base76, we work on mechanistic interpretability and reliability evaluation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      In short:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • We train sparse autoencoders (SAEs) to identify latent features in model representations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • We run interventions and trajectory blocking to test what is causally relevant.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • We build reproducible evaluation panels to compare baseline behavior against interventions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • We develop compact indicators (coherence\/residual-state signals) that can function as early risk markers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        The goal is not pretty visualizations. The goal is actionable signals<\/strong> for risk assessment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Why This Matters in Sweden and the EU<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        Sweden and the EU are now talking about AI sovereignty.
        Sovereignty is not only about where models are hosted.
        It is also about epistemic control<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        • Do we know when a model is robust?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Do we know when it starts to drift?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Do we have methods that are transparent, reproducible, and auditable?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

          This is exactly where Base76 aims to contribute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          How We Work<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

          We build in open artifacts, with clear experimental protocols and documented limitations.
          Negative results are as important as positive ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
